Oakdale Landbou vs Boland Landbou Historic Overview
The penultimate game of the season’s Premier Interschools derby’s takes place on Saturday 10 August when Oakdale hosts fellow agricultural school Boland Landbou from Paarl for their annual interschools. The two schools have been playing each other on yearly basis since 1992 and this year they will meet for the 27th time. The first couple of matches were very close and home ground advantage was a huge factor. It was only in 2001 that an away team won for the first time when Boland Landbou with a certain Derick Hougaard at pivot, took the honours 15-0 in Riversdale.
For the next 8 years Boland dominated the Interschools and Oakdale could only win once in 2005 with the score of 8-6 in a very hard fought game in Riversdale. The 2009 Interschools to be held at Oakdale was abandoned due to flooded fields. The last 8 years again went according to home ground advantage. At the moment Boland holds the overall upper hand by winning 16 of the games while Oakdale have won 9 with one draw.

Oakdale by their own admission is not having one of their best seasons. Usually the school will find itself within the top 15 rankings country wide, but currently they are not rated amongst the top 30. They started off the season with a loss to Stellenberg at the Brackenfell festival, but soon steadied the ship with 4 wins in a row. Their season slump started in late April when they first lost against Paarl Gim and then lost both games at Wildeklawer against Northvaal rivals. Back home they lost their SWD derby against Outeniqua before they were kept scoreless against a strong Paarl Boys outfit the very next Saturday. They did manage to beat old rivals Marlow, but they themselves are not having a great season. Their last outing was against mighty Grey College from Bloemfontein where again they had 50 points put past them. Their only consolation is that Premier Interschoosl rivals Boland Landbou is having just a bad a season as them at the moment.

Boland Landbou is not having one of their beast seasons either in 2019 and has a 50% winning ratio having won 9, lost 7 and drew 2 games so far. They seemed not to be able to put two good performances together in a row and fired hot and cold during the whole season. Good results for them were the draw against Garsfontein at the Bulls rugby day, with wins against Napier Boys High from New Zealand and Stellenberg.
RUGBY AT HOëR LANDBOUSKOOL BOLAND
Boland Landbou rugby produced their first Springbok in 1984 when prop Attie Strauss was picked for the tests between South Africa and the South American Jaguars. They produced a further three Springboks in Lock Hottie Louw (2002), Prop Deon Carstens (2002) and Flyhalf Derick Hougaard (2003). The latter becoming the darling of Loftus and the Blue Bulls with his match winning boot in the mould of their beloved Naas Botha. Old boys Hottie Louw and Deon Carstens have returned to help their Alma Mater in matters of rugby and both have coaching roles at the school. It is indeed great to see that they are ploughing their experience back into the school and its learners.
RUGBY AT HOëR LANDBOUSKOOL OAKDALE
Oakdale produce to date 4 Spingbok rugby players in Flanker Pedrie Wannenburg, Centre/Flyhalf Meyer Bosman, lock Johann Muller and prop JC Janse van Rensburg. Their latest export is loose forward CJ Stander who has represented Ireland and was picked for the British Lions tour to New Zealand in 2017.
